Frequently asked questions
How does the Lanyard Library process work?
The process starts with submitting a request through our website. Select the lanyard style you’d like to borrow and complete the checkout steps. No payment is made at this stage.
Once your request is approved, you’ll receive an invoice for the deposit. After your event, you’ll return the lanyards to Fairware so we can launder them and prepare them for their next event.
- 85%+ returned: your deposit is refunded
- Less than 85% returned: charges are applied for missing lanyards
You’ll receive either a refund or a follow-up invoice once returns are processed.
How do I borrow the lanyards for my event?
Enter the number of lanyards you need on this website, choose between the two available lanyard styles, and complete the borrow request form at checkout.
We currently offer:
- Teal Fairware lanyards with lobster clips
- Navy B Corp–branded lanyards with J-hooks
Once submitted, our team will review your request as part of our internal approval process. Approvals typically take up to 48 hours after submission.
What is the cost to borrow the lanyards?
A $0.37 deposit per lanyard is required. Lanyards are free to borrow as long as 85% or more are returned, and you cover shipping to and from Vancouver, BC.
- Deposits are refunded when the return threshold is met
- Missing lanyards are charged at $2.50 per lanyard to reach the 85% return rate
We also ask that you tag #LanyardLibrary and #FairwareMade if you share your event on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn.
What type of hooks do the lanyards come with?
We offer two lanyard options, each with a different attachment style:
- Teal Fairware lanyards come with lobster clips
- Navy B Corp–branded lanyards come with J-hooks
When designing badge holders or punched name tags, please keep your selected lanyard style in mind to ensure compatibility.
Note: Photos of each hook are shown on the borrow page.
Do the lanyards come with name tag holders?
No. Because events use a wide range of badge sizes and formats, name tag holders are not included with Lanyard Library borrows.
That said, we’re happy to help you source holders that suit your needs, custom-printed ID cards, and eco-friendly seed paper cards, or share tips for using punched name tags that don’t require additional holders.
When selecting holders, please note whether you’re borrowing teal lanyards with lobster clips or navy lanyards with J-hooks to ensure compatibility.
What can we do to ensure the highest possible number comes back at the end of the event?
Awareness and visibility are key. Clear expectations and easy return points help keep lanyards in circulation.
We recommend:
- Introducing attendees to the Lanyard Library program at the start of your event
- Displaying the Lanyard Library return slide during opening remarks and breaks
- Keeping collection boxes accessible throughout the event, not just at the end
- Making it easy for attendees to return lanyards as they leave, even if they don’t stay until closing
There seems to be a limit of 1,000 lanyards. Can I borrow more?
Yes. There is a borrowing range of 25 to 1,000 lanyards per request through the website.
If you need more than 1,000 lanyards for your event, please email lanyardlibrary@fairware.com with your event details and preferred lanyard type, and our team will review your request.
